Monthly Business Meeting Minutes

 

Meeting Date:  November 1, 2005

 

Meeting called to order by President North at 1935 hrs.

 

Roll Call:  President North called the roll.  There were 16 members in attendance.

 

Secretary’s Report:  Secretary Shanley read the minutes from the October meeting.  There was one correction: Charles Goodsaw should not have been listed as having delinquent dues because he is a Junior member.  Motion made by Frances Lattizori to accept the minutes as read and corrected.  Seconded by Mike Follert.  Motion carried.

 

Secretary Shanley also reported the following:

  1. An updated roster is almost ready.  Copies will be available in the meeting room when it is finished
  2. Thank you letters were sent out for the departments and others who responded to the      9-12-05 call on Rt. 44. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  No report.

 

Chief’s Report: Assistant Fire Chief Ken Cyr reported on the following:

  1. The department responded to 14 calls during the last month.  He listed each.
  2. A $100 donation was received from the pump-out on Carriage Road last month.

 

           

Training Officer:  Captain Russell Neher reported the following:

  1. Training during the month of November will be as follows: 11/8 RIT Classroom Session 1830 hrs. at Pleasant Valley; 11/15 RIT Classroom Session 1830 hrs at Pleasant Valley; 11/22 No drill; 11/26 RIT Practical Session 0800 Fire Academy meet at 0700 leave at 0715; 11/29 Surprise drill.  The RIT class is open to anyone with FFI or higher. 
  2. An Instructor I class will be held at Pleasant Valley in November/December.  This is open to anyone with FFII or higher.  See Russ if interested.
  3. All members must have their physicals done and results in by 12/31/05, unless other acceptable arrangements have been made.  Physicals can be scheduled at Occupational Health in Torrington by calling Carol at 482-4552 ext. 6.
  4. A few personnel need HazMat Awareness class or refresher.  Rich Winn will check into adding them to the FFI class currently underway at Burrville.

 

Committee Reports

 

Truck: no meeting has occurred, nothing to report.

 

Picnic: Capt. Neher reported the following:

  1. The bill was received, it was $1000.00

 

Membership: nothing to report

 

Super Bowl: a discussion regarding the progress at the BE station was held.  Rich Winn reported on the status of construction he observed earlier in the week.  The consensus was that there is a good chance they will be ready.  Francis Lattizori added that in the past a theme for the fund raising was used to justify the event.  One for this year is needed.  Members were asked to consider what would be worthwhile.

 

 

Old Business

  1. Ken Cyr reported on some options available for repairing the exterior stairs with regard to draining and location.  The drains themselves run $20 per foot.
  2. The uniforms are still at the Cyr residence.
  3. The company which repaired the house siren has yet to call back.  Ken Cyr researched the cost for a new siren and found it ranges from $4000 to $12,000.
  4. A discussion was held regarding protecting the septic drain for the winter.

 

New Business
  1. Frank Wynne reported that during the call on October 25 the Pleasant Valley General Store donated coffee.  He would like a thank you letter sent.
  2. During the same call Mike Follert donated coffee and donuts.  Mike was thanked for this.
  3. Rich Winn asked that anyone who does not have their own door access code, get one from him.  Each person should have a unique code for security purposes.
  4. Rich Winn informed the members that state law is specific on the acceptable reasons for an executive session, and presented excerpts from them which are attached to these minutes.  The reason for the executive session must be stated in the minutes.  He also informed the members that no voting on motions or otherwise is permitted in Executive Session.
  5. Terry Cyr requested that the status of personnel who are no longer active be updated in the Firehouse Program.
  6. Ken Cyr reported that he attended the LOSAP Committee meeting last week.  The Committee will be reviewing the Plan language as well as the Bylaws of the three departments to resolve conflicts.
